The Xperia 5 V is almost upon us, with Sony having announced a September 1 launch event for its next flagship smartphone. Although Sony has not shared actual information about the Xperia 5 V yet, it looks like someone has already been putting the device through its paces on Geekbench. Benchmarked under its model number 'XQ-DE54', Geekbench confirms that the device relies upon the ARM implementer 65 architecture 8 variant 1 part 3406 revision 0, which has three CPU clusters totalling eight cores.
While the benchmarking website does not reveal the CPU cores, their speeds and the chipset's identifier indicate that it is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and not the new Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 2. The single-core and multi-core scores underline this too, with up to 2,035 scored in the former and 5,390 in the latter. For reference, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 achieves a median score of 1,966 in Geekbench 6's single-core benchmark, as well as 5,350 in its multi-core equivalent.
Unsurprisingly, Sony has pre-installed Android 13, with Android 14's stable release falling after the Xperia 5 V's arrival. As such, software support for the Xperia 5 V is likely to finish on Android 15, with Sony only affording two major Android updates even for its flagship smartphones. Additionally, Geekbench outlines that XQ-DE54 has 8 GB of RAM, matching its predecessor.
However, this would see the Xperia 5 V launching with 4 GB of RAM less than the Xperia 1 V, underlining that Sony sees the former as a less premium alternative to the latter. Purportedly, Sony may offer the Xperia 5 V with 16 GB of RAM in some markets, though. In Sumaho Digest's view, this is likely to be a regional-specific model and is unlikely to receive a global release.
