Fairphone 5: European pricing, release date and specifications leak

Roland Quandt and WinFuture have revealed almost complete details about the Fairphone 5, the company's first smartphone in nearly two years. Previously, there had been evidence that Fairphone would offer its next smartphone with the Snapdragon 782G, a refreshed Snapdragon 778G that is already available in the Honor 80, OnePlus Nord CE3 and the Oppo K11.

Allegedly, the Fairphone 5 will actually arrive with the Qualcomm QCM6490, an octa-core chipset that should match the performance of the Snapdragon 778G and the Snapdragon 782G by extension. The Qualcomm QCM6490 may seem like an unusual choice, but its long-term support should allow Fairphone to provide updates until 2031. While there is no guarantee that the Fairphone 5 will receive major Android updates into the next decade, eight years of security patch updates would be significantly longer than any other Android OEM offers for its smartphones.

Additionally, the Fairphone 5 is said to feature a 6.46-inch OLED display with a 2,770 x 1,224-pixel resolution and a 90 Hz refresh rate, as well as a 4,200 mAh battery. Quandt adds that Fairphone will only sell the Fairphone 5 with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, although we would expect a MicroSD card reader to return. Furthermore, Fairphone is rumoured to have equipped its latest smartphone with a trio of 50 MP cameras, with one serving as its front-facing camera. According to Quandt, Fairphone will reveal the Fairphone 5 on August 31 for €699. Supposedly, the Fairphone 5 will not begin shipping until the end of September, though.
