Sony's upcoming WF-1000XM5 wireless earbuds have been spotted on the FCC website. They will support Bluetooth 5.3, Bluetooth LE and reuse their predecessor's touch panel.

It has been a while since Sony unveiled the WH-1000XM5. Bose, on the other hand is still working on the Bose QuietComfort Ultra, as confirmed by an earlier leak. On the side of the earbuds, the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II have been out for a while, with no sign of the Sony WF-1000XM5. Now, TheWalkmanBlog has stumbled upon Sony's next-gen TWS earbuds online.

The FCC listing doesn't reveal much about the Sony WF-1000XM5 but confirms it will reuse its predecessor's touch panel and support Bluetooth 5.3 along with Bluetooth LE. Qualcomm aptX Lossless should also be included; otherwise, it runs the risk of being overshadowed by Bose's offering. Key information, such as its battery capacity, is obfuscated but will almost certainly receive a bump.

If last-gen Sony WF-1000XM4 launch date is anything to go by, one can expect the Sony WF-1000XM5 to debut sometime in July 2023. Whether or not Sony will completely redesign its chassis and case like its over-the-ear counterpart remains to be seen. Looking at the present market conditions, a bump in price seems inevitable. That said, those on a budget could still get a pair of XM4s, as they'll almost certainly be discounted.
