Roland Quandt and WinFuture have provided more specifications for the LinkBuds S, Sony's next pair of mid-range earbuds. Building on the LinkBuds brand that Sony introduced in February, the LinkBuds S will be available in three colours. Previously, the earbuds had been shown in two colours, discussed separately.
According to Quandt and WinFuture, each earbud will weigh 4.8 g, 0.7 g heavier than each Linkbud earbud. Supposedly, the LinkBuds S will deliver up to 20 hours of battery life, presumably factoring in its bundled charging case rather than a reflection of how long they will last between charges. For reference, Sony quotes the LinkBuds as lasting up to 17:30 hours with the charging case included. Based on the LinkBuds' battery life claims, we would expect the LinkBuds S to achieve at least 6 hours between charges, if not slightly longer.
Moreover, Quandt and WinFuture allege that Sony will market the LinkBuds S as the smallest and lightest earbuds to support active noise cancellation (ANC) and High-Res Audio. In support of the latter, Sony will equip the LinkBuds S with 5 mm drivers, along with Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity and Adaptive Sound Control functionality. Apparently, the LinkBuds S will borrow features from the WF-1000XM4 too, such as Sony's speak-to-chat technology.
Sony is expected to unveil the LinkBuds S for US$199.99 in the US and €199 in the Eurozone. Incidentally, Sony has announced another hardware launch event, building on last week's WH-1000XM5 announcement. As expected, Sony has scheduled the event for May 18, which will commence at 16:00 UTC.
