Arc Raiders is a self-described extraction adventure designed to be played exclusively from a third-person perspective, with no alternative camera view planned by developer Embark. The community, however, had other ideas. One player managed to experience the entire game from a first-person perspective. A three-minute gameplay video was posted on Reddit by u/Short_Statisfaction_9 and later shared by Arc Raiders Alerts on X.
As demonstrated in the video, the first-person perspective works surprisingly well. While occasional visual quirks can occur – such as disappearing arms or brief glimpses of the character’s upper body and face – these issues do not appear to affect gameplay. The change in perspective reportedly enhances the atmosphere significantly. The creator of the thread describes the experience as “surreal” and “terrifying.” At the same time, he notes that Arc Raiders does not necessarily require a first-person view, even though he enjoyed seeing the game from this perspective.
u/Short_Statisfaction_9 does not explain in detail how the first-person perspective was enabled in Arc Raiders, but says he learned about the in-game console through a post on the subreddit. According to him, most players use the console to remove fog or increase brightness, but he decided to experiment further – which ultimately led to the first-person view shown in the video. The loophole is no longer available, however. Embark Studios has since addressed the issue with a hotfix, blocking access to the relevant console commands.
The Reddit community is largely praising the increased immersion offered by the first-person perspective. Some users are calling for an official toggle option and even see potential for VR support. At the same time, there is broad agreement that this viewpoint could put players at a disadvantage compared to the standard third-person view. One suggested solution is the introduction of separate lobbies. Many others, however, prefer Arc Raiders to remain unchanged.
