The AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT and the RX 7700 XT are Team Red’s newest mid-range RDNA 3 boards that went on sale starting September 6. According to the newest report from Moore’s Law Is Dead and TechEpiphany, the RX 7800 XT is a hot seller as it apparently went out of stock at various retailers on launch day and was the best-selling card on Mindfactory during the launch week.

It would be an understatement to say that the mid-range GPU launches in 2023 have been underwhelming. With the announcement of the RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT at US$499 and US$449, the stage was set for AMD’s latest mid-range boards to shine. This is exactly what seems to have happened as reports out of Moore’s Law Is Dead and TechEpiphany claim that the RX 7800 XT is selling incredibly well while the RX 7700 XT is also moving decently.

Starting with MLID’s report about launch day sales, one of the leaker’s retail sources suggested that their supply of the RX 7800 XT was “gone in hours nationwide” and the RX 7700 XT was “selling well too”. Similarly, a different source claimed that, at their location, both the RX 7800 XT and the RX 7700 XT “sold out today”.

Furthermore, an MLID informant working for a “Major US Retailer” alleged that, although they anticipated strong sales for AMD’s newest offerings based on sales of mid-range cards like the RX 6800 and the RTX 4070, the actual sales scenario “was wild”. Per the source, multiple store reps had managed to move “a handful of RX 7800XTs” within a few hours of opening and the store ran out of most of the stock by the day’s end.

Another retail source maintained that the RX 7800 XT could be the “most successful GPU launch of 2023”. The source also alleged that the sales of the RX 7700 XT are also going well.

Finally, an AMD insider reported to Tom that the Navi 32 was “exceeding our sales expectations”. The source further suggested that since the RX 7700 XT appears to be selling fewer units in North America, Team Red will boost shipments of the RX 7800 XT to “maybe around 60%” of the total Navi 32 supply.

RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT launch week sales on Mindfactory

MLID’s report launch day sales report goes hand in hand with TechEpiphany’s analysis of launch week sales of the Navi 32 cards on the German retailer Mindfactory. According to TechEpiphany, the RX 7800 XT was the best-selling card on Mindfactory in week 36 with a total of 650 units sold. The RX 7700 XT on the other hand only sold 55 units.

To put this into perspective, the RTX 4070, the second-best-selling card, sold 150 units less and clocked in at 500 units. This is to be expected, as not only does the RX 7800 XT cost US$100, but it also outperforms the RTX 4070 in rasterization on average and has 4 GB more VRAM, making the card a better option for folks looking to play games without RT.

Long story short, the RX 7800 XT appears to be a big win for AMD, while the RX 7700 XT is also selling well. It will be interesting to see if NVIDIA responds to the RX 7800 XT by cutting the price of the RTX 4070 as it did with the RTX 4060 Ti.
