Deal | Seiko 5 Sports: Four watches get substantial discounts

Four models (SRPK71, SRPD51, SRPD63 and SRPD65) from the Seiko 5 Sports collection are currently discounted at Amazon. All models are fundamentally identical in their feature set; only the strap and design of the SRPK71 differs significantly from the other three, which only differ in color (see below). Each model uses the brand's 4R36 automatic movement, a movement that supports manual winding, a stop-seconds function for precise time-setting, and a day-date display, backed by 24 jewels and roughly 41 hours of power reserve.

None of this is cutting-edge, which is arguably the point: these models aim to provide a mechanical-watch experience without unnecessary complexity. However, the relatively short power reserve means the watch(es) may stop if left unworn for most of the weekend.

The stainless-steel case measures 42.5mm wide, 13.4mm thick, and 46mm from lug to lug, with the bracelet configuration weighing around 170 grams. Seiko uses Hardlex rather than sapphire crystal and applies LumiBrite to the hands and markers. The SRPK71 has a simple black and red striped nylon strap, while the other three models use a three-fold clasp with push-button release. 

Otherwise, all watches have 100-meter water resistance, a unidirectional bezel, a transparent caseback and 4,800 A/m magnetic resistance. Despite visual echoes of the SKX line, Seiko does not market this as a dive watch; its Prospex divers offer more specialized ratings, including 200-meter resistance and screw-down crowns.

Last but not least, the price: the SRPK71 has the largest discount, down 25% to $280 from $375. The blue, green and black models cost $299, $305 and $316, respectively, representing discounts of 13-20%. Prospective buyers should keep in mind the aforementioned trade-offs, namely Hardlex over sapphire, a shorter reserve, non-dive-rated water resistance, that make these models uncomplicated mechanical sports watches for everyday use and ordinary water exposure.
