Samsung's recently announced blazingly fast PCIe 5.0 M.2 NVMe SSDs that can reach read speeds of up to 14,800 MB/s are now available to order. The 9100 Pro and 9100 Pro with Heatsink can be purchased from Samsung’s website and select retailers in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB variants. Samsung also shared that there will be 8TB models in the 9100 Pro series coming in the second half of 2025. These SSDs push the boundaries of what PCIe 5.0 can offer, but of course, they come with a price premium.
Samsung 9100 PRO specifications
Using the PCIe 5.0 x4 interface, the 9100 Pro series follows the 2280 form factor and includes a Heatsink and a non-heatsink variant. It comes in 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB (available later this year) storage capacities, each with similar read and write speeds. The 4TB and 8TB options can reach the advertised 14,800 MB/s sequential read speeds and 13,400 MB/s sequential write speeds. The 1TB and 2TB models are just a little slower at 14,700 MB/s sequential read speeds, with the 1TB variant having the slowest sequential write speeds out of the lot at 13,300 MB/s.
All the models come with Samsung’s V NAND TLC (V8) and an in-house controller. As for durability, the 1TB drive is rated for 600 TBW (Total Bytes Written), the 2TB model for 1,200, 4TB for 2,400, and the 8TB model for 4,800. They are covered by Samsung’s five-year limited warranty which is standard with most Samsung SSDs. They follow Class 0 (AES 256), TCG/Opal v2.0, and MS eDrive (IEEE1667) data encryption standards for keeping user data safe.
