Samsung confirms WhatsApp, X, other apps work over satellite on Galaxy phones with no mobile signal
As reported by @theoneacid on X, users of select Samsung Galaxy phones can now access a list of apps that work even without a mobile internet connection. The apps are listed under the “Satellite-ready apps on your phone” heading in Settings.
The South Korean phone maker has partnered with mobile network operators in North America (AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile), Europe (MasOrange in Spain, Virgin Media 02, and Vodafone), and Japan (Docomo, KDDI, Rakuten Mobile, and SoftBank). Samsung’s approach differs from rival Apple, which collaborates directly with satellite internet companies such as SpaceX for Starlink.
Usually, direct-to-satellite customers in different markets can expect different options. In some countries, satellite connectivity only enables texting or emergency services, while elsewhere, users can make calls, send SMS, and use the internet.

Samsung announced late in February that the Galaxy S26 series would launch with satellite communication capabilities. It also promised to expand the service globally.
