Samsung Z3 gets software update

Samsung Z3 Tizen smartphone gets update that removes MixRadio app

The 25.4 MB update removes the MixRadio app since Samsung discontinued the short-lived streaming service for Tizen OS earlier this week.

Samsung has been shutting down many services lately, although its smartphone business seems to be well enough. Unfortunately, the low-cost Tizen handsets and the associated services do not seem to take off as the company was expected. Earlier this week, Samsung has shut down the MixRadio music streaming service, and now a maintenance release update for the Z3 pushes the associated app into oblivion as well.

Samsung Z3 (SM-Z300H) handsets in India have begun to receive the new firmware yesterday. The update is rather small, having only 25.4 MB in size. Build number is Z300HDDU0BPC5, the details describing it as a security policy update. In addition to the security improvements, it also removes the MixRadio app.

The MixRadio service offered free access for life to over 30 million songs, also offering the ability to enjoy the music offline. With it gone, Samsung Z3 users in India can pick one of the similar local services, such as Gaana.
