Samsung Internet 19.0 Beta now available with improved anti-tracking and phishing detection
Based on the open-source Chromium project, Samsung Internet Browser (also known as Samsung Internet or just S Browser) has been available for download from Google Play starting in 2015. In addition to being pre-installed on Samsung Galaxy devices, it also comes on Tizen-based smartwatches and can be installed on non-Samsung devices as well. According to Samsung's estimates, it had around 400 million monthly active users back in 2016.
Version 18 of this piece of code is based on Chromium 99 and its latest Beta release arrived back in late June. Yesterday, Samsung unveiled the first Beta for Samsung Internet 19.0, which is scheduled for a full stable release in the final quarter of 2022. The highlights of this build include the following:
- Enhanced Smart anti-tracking driven by artificial intelligence that aims to detect domains that collude with classified trackers and apply protection almost instantly.
- Improved lookalike phishing detection.
- A new Privacy Info feature that allows users to quickly verify how secure is their connection to the active website.
- Ad blockers graph for a better overview of the active privacy settings and their
- effectiveness.
- Add-ons now work in Secret mode.
- The ability to sync bookmarks between PC Chrome and Samsung Internet mobile browsers via the Samsung Internet Chrome Extension.
According to Samsung, the Beta period will conclude later this year and the stable version of Samsung Internet 19.0 should launch officially in Q4 2022. Obviously, Samsung Internet users will receive a notification as soon as the new version becomes available.
