According to a renowned leaker, Samsung has equipped the Galaxy Watch 4 or Galaxy Watch Active 4 with a sensor that could help people track their body weight. Apparently, the South Korean company has integrated a BIA sensor in its next smartwatches, which will be capable of measuring your body composition.

Even though Samsung is yet to comment on the names of its first Wear OS smartwatches, various leaks have already confirmed that they will be called the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch Active 4. Additionally, we already know roughly what to expect from the two series, not least the latter's design courtesy of OnLeaks. Samsung will announce its 'New Watch Experience' on June 28, but the company is not expected to reveal any new smartwatches until its next Galaxy Unpacked event, supposedly scheduled for August 3.

According to Max Weinbach, Samsung has equipped at least the Galaxy Watch 4 with a Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) sensor. BIA sensor can estimate body composition, which could be helpful in tracking your body fat and muscle mass percentages. It is unclear where Weinbach obtained this information, but he has cultivated a reliable reputation in the last few years. To our knowledge, no manufacturer has released a fitness tracker or smartwatch containing a BIA sensor so far.

If Weinbach is correct, then we would not be surprised if Samsung includes a BIA sensor in both the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch Active 4 series. We would also be interested to see how Google integrates this functionality within Wear OS and the Google Fit app. Currently, Wear OS does not even offer unified sleep tracking, so enabling body composition tracking would be a leap in complexity for Google's smartwatch platform.
