Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 3 debuts with a new design, support for iOS, and better tracking

Just a few weeks shy from its third anniversary, the Galaxy SmartTag 2 has received a successor. Aptly named the Galaxy SmartTag 3 (stylized as SmartTag3), the new tracker brings a handful of upgrades, and for the first time, support for Apple devices.
The SmartTag 3 has been redesigned and is now smaller and lighter than its predecessor — 35% (smaller by volume) and 33% respectively. Those trimmings have translated into a new look, as the bottle opener design is gone, and in its place is a rounded square-shaped tracker that's available in black and white.
The smaller size means it won't take up much space and can fit into crevices. However, it also means you need to purchase a case if you intend to attach it to key rings. Thankfully, Samsung will sell a bumper case and a silcone case in a variety of colors. There should also be more styles from third party manufacturers.
In terms of features, the Galaxy SmartTag 3 now boasts support for Galaxy and iOS devices (iOS 17 or newer) a.k.a. cross-OS compatibility. There's also a new feature called Compass View that works with Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding to provide distance and directional guidance from up to 60 meters away. And if you have a device with support for ultra-wideband (UWB), you get even more precision.
Compass View is available on Galaxy devices running Android 12 or later with support for UWB or Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding. Devices with support for Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding include the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy S26 Ultra, and Galaxy S26+.
The Galaxy SmartTag 3 also has a new feature called Place Notification which lets users mark an area and receive an alert when a tagged item moves in or out of it. This can be useful for those who put a tracker on their bikes, in their cars, or on their pets.
Another feature is Left Behind Alert which will notify you when your device loses connection with a tagged belonging, while Lost Mode shows contact information when a lost tag is scanned by a compatible device. Users can also program their SmartTag 3 to initiate preset SmartThings routines when you press the button on the tag.
The Galaxy SmartTag 3 has an IP67 dust and water resistance rating and a battery life of up to 550 days (up to 790 days in power-saving mode). It is powered by a replaceable CR2032 coin cell.
Samsung has not announced the price of the Galaxy SmartTag 3 but it has revealed that it will be available first in Korea on October 7, followed by the US, and then other regions in 2027. It will be available in a single unit or a pack of 4 just like the SmartTag 2 (available on Amazon for $52.69).
