Samsung “Galaxy Glass” smart glasses may launch in September
Although there are still at least six months until Google should release its smart glasses it seems the Internet search giant already has a competitor, as recent reports show that Samsung will also launch its own wearable gadget known as Galaxy Glass.
According to The Korea Times, Google Glass will hit the market during the second half of the year, while Samsung's Galaxy Glass could be unveiled in September at IFA 2014 in Berlin. Obviously this should be taken with a grain of salt since there is no official release date for any of these two products yet.
Sources familiar with the matter say Google already has 2,000 testers using its smart glasses and the whole testing process is almost complete. On the other hand, Samsung already registered a patent at the Korean Intellectual Property Office for its own product, but nothing is known about its current development stage.
Samsung Electronics Chief Financial Officer Lee Sang-hoon said "The new smart glass to be introduced by Samsung is a new concept of wearable device that can lead to an exciting culture of communication." so it is clear that both Samsung and Google will barely test the market potential of these products. "Wearable devices can’t generate profits immediately. Steady releases of devices are showing our firm commitment as a leader in new markets." he concluded.
