If you travel in inhospitable areas often, work on construction sites or are simply clumsy, you need a smartphone that does not break into a thousand pieces on the first drop and that can also cope with moisture or dirt.
Samsung has been offering its XCover series for years. The 2022 model is called Galaxy XCover 6 Pro and looks very modest for a water- and shockproof smartphone. Only the protruding frame and the fluting of the case indicate that we are dealing with something unusual here.
Nevertheless, the plain black case makes the smartphone look good on a desk or conference table.
In everyday use, the XCover 6 Pro impresses with its modern WiFi 6E and its fast processor, which is also well equipped for multitasking. And it even enables something else.
In our detailed review, we also took a look at its gaming capabilities, and Samsung's rugged smartphone has a surprise in store: It can play not too demanding games at over 100 fps and is almost suitable for more demanding gamers. Almost, because the screen's response times cannot keep up here, unfortunately.
Samsung did not do itself any favors with the display: The PLS screen does a decent job, but it is too dark for an outdoor smartphone like the XCover 6 Pro and can only reproduce colors with a heavy blue cast.
One of the most important features of the XCover series has always been the removable battery, and Samsung does not make an exception in the XCover 6 Pro. Simply remove the back and you can replace the battery, which brings back memories of the classic Nokia phones.
Overall, we liked the XCover 6 Pro, even for everyday use away from rough environments. However, we also have a few points of criticism. Find out more about these in our detailed review here.
