Yakuza and Like a Dragon’s developer Ryu Ga Gotoku and publisher SEGA have announced their annual RGG Summit 2025, scheduled to stream ahead of this year’s Tokyo Game Show. The showcase is slated to go live on September 24 at 12:00 JST, which translates to September 24, 4:00 AM BST, or September 23, 8:00 PM PT.
The RGG Summit will present the studio’s latest developments, along with additional details on the announcements made during the broadcast. The RGG Summit’s schedule aligns with Ryu Ga Gotoku’s prior TGS event, where the studio announced Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, which launched later in February 2025, featuring Goro Majima of the Tojo Clan’s Shimano family.
Fans are expecting an announcement about the development of a new mainline entry in the Like a Dragon Series, which has been receiving annual releases in recent years. Furthermore, the Summit could potentially offer deeper insight and a gameplay showcase for their new IP, Stranger Than Heaven, previously known as Project Century, announced at The Game Awards 2024.
So far, Stranger Than Heaven is a new action game, similar to prior Yakuza entries, set in Japan during 1943 amid wartime tensions. While not much has been shared about the game apart from different narrative timelines in the game, we’ve been promised button-mashing third-person combat in crowded alleys and streets.
Furthermore, Ryu Ga Gotoku is also juggling another title, which has been long-standing in development. The studio is working on the next mainline entry in the Virtua Fighter Series, currently known as the New Virtua Fighter Project. We were treated to pure in-game fluid gameplay footage at EVO Vegas, where long-time series’ fighter Akira duked it out with Stella in a Training Stage.
This time around, Virtua Fighter aims to broaden its accessibility, as Producer Riichiro Yamada posited it to be “a game that anyone can play.” It’s a breath of fresh air as fans of the series haven’t seen a new Virtua Fighter game apart from remasters of Virtua Fighter 5, which originally released on July 12, 2006.
While much of the information regarding the RGG Summit remains under wraps, Ryu Ga Gotoku has promised an in-depth look at their upcoming video game offerings, including announcements, release dates, trailers, and potentially more.
