AMD's recent Ryzen 5 5500X3D launch confirmed its unwavered commitment to the AM4 socket. However, those who already upgraded to AM5 don't have too many X3D options to choose from. The last-gen Ryzen 5 7600X3D was a limited-run CPU available in one market. And now, it has a successor lined up.
On AMD's Radeon AI PRO R9700 driver update page, the list of supported CPUs includes the yet-to-be-announced Ryzen 5 9600X3D and the Ryzen 5 9600. It also lists new Ryzen models such as the Ryzen 9 Pro 9945, Ryzen 7 Pro 9745, Ryzen 5 Pro 9645, Ryzen 5 Pro 9400. The new Pro-branded CPUs are intriguing because unlike their Ryzen 8000 series counterparts like the Ryzen 7 Pro 8700GE, they lack the GE suffix.
As far as the Ryzen 5 9600X3D is concerned, it is probably a Ryzen 5 9600X with a 3D V-cache tile slapped on top, complete with six Zen 5 cores and twelve threads. Even though the extra cache will benefit games greatly, its low core count makes it a difficult recommendation for anything else. Whether or not this CPU will be available globally remains to be seen.
