RootBoard: Raspberry Pi "mini laptop" with built-in battery and 70-key keyboard

We have previously covered mobile systems based on the Raspberry Pi platform. With the RootBoard, another such device is now seeking funding via a crowdfunding campaign. Early backers can secure a unit for around $115, excluding shipping and the required Raspberry Pi. As with any crowdfunding project, the financial risk should not be underestimated. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in November 2026. According to the developer, the device is compatible with the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W and the older Raspberry Pi Zero (W). Both offer limited computing performance.
The system features a 3.5-inch color display, but detailed specifications have not yet been disclosed. Key technical details therefore remain unclear, and potential backers should proceed with caution. Developer Dian Lieu also notes that the device is still in active development, meaning final specifications may change. The RootBoard integrates a 70-key keyboard, making it suitable for typing longer texts, although a high-quality mechanical typing experience is unlikely. A built-in battery enables mobile use, while integrated speakers allow for direct audio playback.
