Roland has unveiled the Mood Pan (MN-10) hand percussion instrument, allowing owners to find peace through calming music.
The Mood Pan allows performance by striking the top pads made of silicone rubber like a Caribbean steel drum. The sensitivity of the pads can be adjusted to suit the playing style of the performer. Eight tones (crystal bowl, gamelan, handpan, singing bowl, sitar, strings, synth, and tongue drum) and four user customizable tones can be selected using the rear tone knob. The tones can be modified with a wide range of effects. The Mood Pan Plus app can be used to customize the user tones with additional sounds.
Twelve tuning styles (Aegean, Arabic, Celtic, Dreamy, Equinox, Indian, Japanese, Major, Meditation, Minor, Relax, and Romantic) allow players to create music in various cultural styles and are selectable from the rear style knob. The MN-10 can play nature and environmental sounds, unaccompanied or accompanied by the owner, along with timed evening, morning, relaxing, and yoga soundtracks for relaxation.
The Mood Pan uses three speakers - one 3.94-inch (10 cm) speaker and two 1.38 x 3.15-inch (3.5 x 8 cm) speakers. Headphones can be plugged into Mood Pan for playing without disturbing those nearby.
The unit can also be used as a Bluetooth 4.2 speaker when powered by AA batteries or plugged into a 9-volt 2-amp USB-C power supply. The instrument has a runtime of up to five hours when using six Ni-MH AA batteries or four hours on alkalines. The round MN-10 measures 12.5 x 3.75 inches (316 x 94 mm) and weighs 5.31 pounds (2.4 kg).
The Roland Mood Pan has an MSRP of $659.99. Readers can check the Roland store on Amazon and authorized dealers for stock. Those who prefer the feel of a real instrument can try a Caribbean-style steel drum like this one on Amazon.
