CES 2013 | Razer details Edge and Edge Pro gaming tablets

Teaser
The 10.1-inch, 720p tablet will include Core i5/i7 CPU options, GeForce 640M LE graphics, and an optional gamepad starting for a total of $1000

What began as Project Fiona has now evolved into a full-fledged production unit called the Razer Edge. The U.S.-based manufacturer has unveiled at CES this year not one, but two variations of its high-end gaming tablet.

The entry-level version of the Razer Edge will run users $1000 without any gamepads or docks. The gamepad itself will cost an additional $250 while the docking station should be under $100 at launch. The latter provides additional connectivity options including 3x USB 2.0 ports, audio jacks, and an HDMI-out. A keyboard dock is available as well for an additional $200. At its highest configuration level, the Razer Edge Pro will be bundled with improved specifications and a gamepad for $1500.

So what exactly will the Razer Edge run on? At its core, the 10.1-inch tablet will utilize an Intel Core i5 or Core i7 CPU with a DirectX 11.1-capable Nvidia GeForce GT 640M LE. Compared to the GeForce GT 640M, the 640LE is clocked significantly lower at only 500 MHz and uses slower DDR3 VRAM as opposed to GDDR5. With respect to the 720p display resolution, most of today's games should run smoothly at medium detail settings.
