It has been reported that owners of unlocked Razer Phone 2 handsets can expect to start receiving updates to Android 9 Pie from February 27. Those with carrier devices will have to wait a bit longer. This will be a relief to some as it seems the American-Singaporean company could be having some internal issues.

9to5Google has stated that the Razer Phone 2 is scheduled to start receiving an update to Android 9 Pie from February 27 onwards. This will initially be for unlocked devices, with those tied to a carrier receiving the new OS later. The same report offers a date of March 14 for carrier devices; although it is expected AT&T will start rolling out Pie to Razer Phone 2 users from April 4.

There may have been some concern among Razer Phone 2 owners that their smartphones wouldn’t receive a Pie upgrade considering the company currently seems to be having some high business hurdles to leap over. We just reported on the fact that the Razer Game Store will soon be closing (February 28) and apparently there have been layoffs.

The highly rated Razer Phone 2 received a "very good" when it was reviewed recently by Notebookcheck. Razer is promoting a limited time special offer for the gaming smartphone: It’s possible to buy one for US$649.99 at the moment, which is US$150 off the usual price (US$799.99). However, this comes with Android 8.1 Oreo, so it will need updating to Pie.
