ProximiKey Padlock with NFC reader launches on Kickstarter
The ProximiKey Padlock, a digital keyless lock, is currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter. The gadget allows you to use your smartphone to open the lock, and you can set up the device and manage its settings in an accompanying app. The padlock is powered by NFC technology, allowing you to tap your phone on the gadget to open the lock.
The gadget is somewhat water-resistant, and the replaceable battery will last up to 10 years with everyday use, according to the company. A warning light on the device flashes red when the battery needs to be changed. The ProximiKey Padlock is currently only compatible with iOS devices, with an Android version planned for release in 2023. A smartwatch app is also expected to follow late next year.
Through the app, you can connect up to four locks via the app and share access with friends and family. The padlock is the first product from ProximiKey, which appears to be planning to release a broader range of smart locks, such as bike and door locks. The company suggests that one solution in the future could be compatible with any lock.
You can currently receive a ProximiKey Padlock when you pledge DKK 489 (~US$69) to the Kickstarter campaign. After this pre-sale period, the device will retail for US$99. Deliveries are expected to start in November, with the company willing to ship globally.
