Fallout 76 — a survival open-world RPG — is now free to try on Steam until February 5. It is also on sale currently at $7.99, an 80% reduction from the official price tag of $39.99.

Fallout 76 is currently free-to-try on Steam, and is also on sale at its usual discount price of $7.99, representing an 80% drop from its $39.99 price tag. The free trial offer will expire on February 5, while the sale will end a day after.

Developed by Bethesda Game Studios and released in 2020, Fallout 76 is an action-RPG that offers an open-world survival gameplay. This game is set in a post-apocalyptic America — 25 years after a nuclear war. Here, you play as one of the survivors of the nuclear war — a handpicked group of America's best, protected in underground vaults, while the world above is being annihilated by explosions and radiation.

Emerging from the vault, you will embark on the main mission — rebuilding the Appalachia. There are also side quests to complete and rewards to collect along the way. Fallout 76 was the first game in the Fallout game series and also the first from the studio to offer multiplayer gameplay. This change in style led to issues, as a result, the game had a bad reception at the start, with improvements like the Wastelanders expansion leading to better reviews.

Being a multiplayer RPG, you can interact with other players in various ways: teaming up to tackle risky quests, trading, and more. With a host of monsters to fight, you can grind experience points with which you can develop your character. Fallout 76 also features base-building, base defense, resource management, and more.

Over the years, it has accumulated over 133,000 reviews on Steam, with 72% of these reviews being positive. The journey to this current state has been nothing short of a rollercoaster, with review positivity going from as low as 56% in some months to 87% in other months. Some of the critics point to the P2W-leaning nature of the game, with basic things like bigger storage needing subscriptions to enjoy.

Though the game is priced at $39.99, it usually goes on sale at $7.99, reaching an all-time low price of $3.99 during last year's Steam Winter Sale. It requires 96 GB of space to play and is fully online.
