Pixel Watch rumoured to launch with the same sensors as the Fitbit Charge 5 and Fitbit Luxe
It has not been long since a Pixel Watch was found in a restaurant, seemingly a repeat of Gizmodo's infamous iPhone 4 leak. However, 9to5Google has already started analysing the leaked design, which appears to be an engineering sample. According to the website, the sensors on the Pixel Watch's rear are almost identical to those found in the Fitbit Charge 5 and Luxe.
If that is the case, the Pixel Watch will offer ECG, heart rate and Oxygen Saturation (SpO2) monitoring, along with the ability to calculate someone's VO2 Max. Moreover, the Fitbit Charge 5 and Luxe can track stress levels and can notify you if your heart rate is above or below a set threshold. Presumably, the Pixel Watch would match the Charge 5's sleep tracking and sleep score technologies too, as well as menstrual cycle and skin temperature tracking.
As 9to5Google notes, Google may be re-using the sensors from the Fitbit Charge 5 and Luxe to reduce Pixel Watch development costs. It is no secret that Google will integrate Fitbit software within Wear OS 3, a vanilla version of which the company is expected to showcase at this year's Google I/O conference. Potentially, Google may also release the Pixel Watch next month, although there are rumours that the smartwatch will not be ready until October. In comparison, the Pixel 6a is believed to be in line for a Google I/O 2022 release, as we have discussed separately.
