The recent early review video of the Pixel 10 posted by 9to5Google on YouTube shows that the latest base model smartphone from Google is not better than its predecessor in all areas. The video, which focused on camera performance, showed the Pixel 10 to be better than the Pixel 9 in all areas but one — low-light photography.
From the sample photos and clips in the video, there is a clear gap in low-light photography performance. The Google Pixel 10 just couldn't manage the glare from light sources, delivering blurry pictures and videos each time. The Google Pixel 9 on the other hand, gracefully handled the low-light shots and produced sharp pictures. Here is one of the side-by-side samples from the video.
While the results are disappointing, it is not surprising, as the camera specs of both devices suggest this. The Pixel 9's main camera has a bigger sensor (1/1.31") compared to Pixel 10's 1/2" sensor, and both have the same aperture (f/1.7).
