Pricing for the next-generation consoles has been a point of contention for some time now. Following a recent report about Project Helix’s cost, a leaker has shared their guess about what the PS6 could cost.

Just yesterday (October 20), we got an idea of how much Project Helix could cost, and it wasn’t good news. We know it’s going to be more powerful than the PS6 just based on raw horsepower, but actual gaming experience is a different story. By that metric, the PS6 should be cheaper than the next Xbox, and a known leaker has now given an idea of how much.

Insider and leaker Kepler, who has been sharing information about the upcoming Sony and Microsoft consoles for some time now, recently spoke about the Project Helix pricing report. In a response to a commenter asking for the expected price for the PS6, the leaker replied with “$600 vs $1200 is my guess.”

Prior to this statement, Kepler responded to another commenter referring to the over $680 cost of RAM and NAND for the PS6 and said the BOM, or bill of materials, for the PS6 is $200 less than Magnus. That means the PS6 will cost $200 less to make than Project Helix.

Considering the two statements, it seems like both Sony and Microsoft will subsidize the next-generation consoles to make them more approachable for the public. It also seems like both the PS6 and Project Helix will not be released in 2027, but will be pushed to 2028. Even still, RAM and storage prices are not expected to be too different from what they are now.

Questionable at best

The $600 price tag for the PS6 raises some eyebrows. It would be really hard for Sony to achieve that price point. The PS5 Pro launched at $700, and it is currently selling for much higher. A more powerful PS6 costing less is very unlikely. Furthermore, with the RAM and NAND supposedly costing over $680, Sony would be taking a huge loss on every PS6 console if it were sold at $600. And while that's a common strategy when it comes to consoles, it seems a little too optimistic.
