A Game About Digging a Hole sequel gets December release date and four-player co-op

Who would have thought that digging a hole could be so entertaining? Apparently, enough people did to warrant a sequel. A Game About Digging a Hole Together now has a confirmed December 4, 2026 release date, with a new trailer shown during the October 20 ID@Xbox and IGN Showcase.
The sequel was originally announced in September, so the latest news is its release date and confirmed platform lineup. Developed by Austrian studio Mipumi Games in collaboration with the German publisher rokaplay Select, the game is heading to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, with Xbox Game Pass availability from day one. The original A Game About Digging a Hole started as a small side project by a single developer and went on to sell more than one million copies. Its premise was almost ridiculously simple: dig, collect resources, sell them, upgrade your equipment and keep digging until you discover what's hiding underground.
The sequel sticks to that formula but introduces something players had been asking for: multiplayer. Up to four people can now dig together, share the workload and explore a larger underground world filled with new terrain, tools and secrets. The cross-platform play is supported, so friends won't necessarily need the same gaming system to join the excavation. Solo play is still an option for anyone who prefers digging in peace.
According to the developers, the game has been rebuilt from scratch to accommodate the expanded experience, while keeping the original's minimalist approach. The publisher for Japan, Shochiku Games announced a price of ¥700 (approximately $4.43), with international pricing yet to be confirmed.
Whether digging with friends proves more entertaining than doing it alone remains to be seen. At least this time, there's someone else to blame when the hole gets completely out of hand.
