The Oura Ring 4 was previously only available with a stainless steel casing, but now Oura is introducing a variant with a ceramic casing for the first time. This is intended to give the ring a particularly deep shine and vibrant colours, with the Oura Ring 4 Ceramic available in blue, white, pink or green.
Interestingly, the new material actually increases the weight, as the Oura Ring 4 Ceramic weighs between 5.1 and 8.1 grams, depending on the size, instead of the 3.3 to 5.2 grams of the titanium model. The interior is still made of titanium, and the ring is water-resistant to a depth of 100 meters. The features remain unchanged: Oura advertises a battery life of five to eight days as well as heart rate, SpO2 and skin temperature sensors, while an accelerometer can track movement.
Many health features only available with a subscription
In conjunction with the accompanying smartphone app, the Oura Ring 4 Ceramic offers sleep and fitness tracking, with activities like cycling and running automatically detected. The ring provides information on stress, heart health, women's menstrual cycles and daily fitness. However, to use all features, a subscription is required, which costs $5.99 per month.
Also new is the optional charging case, which is extremely portable at 5.6 x 5.5 x 1.7 centimeters and only weighs 60 grams, but can still fully charge the Oura Ring 4 up to five times. This finally makes it easier to charge the ring on longer trips without having to bring the bulky charging station.
Price and availability
The Oura Ring 4 Ceramic is now available for $499 from the manufacturer's online store. By comparison, the Oura Ring 4 made of titanium in silver or black costs $349 on Amazon, and the gold model is also available for $499. The new charging case is scheduled to launch later this year for around $99.
