Orico launches 5-bay 3.5-inch HDD enclosure with magnetic tool-free cover and 90 TB capacity

Orico has listed a new 5-bay 3.5-inch HDD enclosure on Amazon Japan, specifically for users who need high-capacity local storage without the complexity of a full NAS setup. The enclosure supports up to 90 TB of total storage by housing five drives of up to 18 TB each.

The headline feature here is the magnetic attachment mechanism on the top cover. Instead of using screws or latches, the enclosure uses magnetic chips embedded in the cover. This means you can install or swap drives in a few seconds without any tools. Thanks to this, hot-swapping should be way more simple compared to traditional enclosures that require partial disassembly.

On the connectivity side, the enclosure uses a USB 3.0 to SATA 3.0 interface with a rated maximum transfer speed of 5 Gbps. UASP support is also included, which improves transfer efficiency compared to standard USB 3.0 by reducing CPU overhead and latency during sequential operations. An auto-sleep mode is built in to reduce power draw and drive wear during idle periods.

Thermal management is handled by a 120 mm internal fan alongside a large honeycomb ventilation panel on the rear. It is designed to maintain consistent airflow across all five bays during sustained operation. LED indicators on the front panel display the activity status of each individual drive. The unit ships with a 12V/6.5A universal power adapter rated for 100–240V input and is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux. Orico covers it with a 12-month warranty.
