Oppo Find N3 Flip Smartphone review - Foldable with triple camera
There are still only a manageable number of foldable smartphones on the market. This is especially true for the smaller devices. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 and Motorola Razr 40 - optionally as Ultra - are the top dogs. Huawei also has a good folding smartphone with the P50 Pocket, but it is only competitive to a limited extent without Google services.
Oppo now also wants a slice of the pie and is launching the Find N3 Flip on the market. The device is currently not officially sold in Germany. However, this could soon change with the agreement between Oppo and Nokia.
Oppo is offering the Find N3 Flip in three color variants: Cream Gold, Misty Pink, and Sleek Black. The basic version of the device comes with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage space. The manufacturer also offers a version with 512 GB storage. Our test device is Cream Gold and comes in the small storage version. According to Trading Shenzhen, the import price is 1,147 euros.

Case - Oppo relies on glass for the Find N3 Flip
Like Samsung and Motorola, Oppo relies on two screens for the N3 Flip. The 3.26-inch external display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. Next to it is the triple camera, which protrudes about two millimeters from the case.
The front and back are also made of glass, but there is no further information from the manufacturer. The 6.8-inch internal display is protected by Schott UTG. A volume rocker and a power button with an integrated fingerprint reader are installed on the right side. On the left side, the Oppo Find N3 Flip has a slider for the notification settings. All buttons have a good pressure point and sit without play.
The build quality is pleasing. We did not notice any scratches or other wear and tear on the device during the test period. The hinge has some play between the two end positions. However, it sits securely and stably in the end positions. The Oppo Find N3 Flip weighs 201 grams.
When the device is folded and placed on the table, it slips very easily if the surface is not absolutely flat. The glass back offers hardly any grip.
Features - Find N3 Flip can only handle USB 2.0
Oppo relies on a MediaTek Dimensity 9200 as the SoC for the Find N3 Flip. It also has 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage space. The memory cannot be expanded. The Find N3 Flip supports dual SIM and can be used with two physical SIMs as well as with an eSIM.
Unfortunately, the USB port only offers USB 2.0 as a transfer standard. However, exFAT and NTFS can be used for data transfer. In combination with a Samsung 980 Pro SSD, we measured a transfer speed of 22.94 MB/s.
The Find N3 Flip does not have IP certification. However, the SIM tray has a rubber seal, which at least indicates protection against splash water.
Software - Oppo currently only in English
Oppo delivers the Find N3 Flip with Android 13 and its own UI ColorOS 13.2. The security patch at the time of testing is from January 2024. Our test device was imported and is not officially available in Germany. German cannot be selected as the system language during setup, but English is available. Nevertheless, some pre-installed apps and widgets are provided with text in Mandarin.
A large number of apps are pre-installed ex-works, but these can be easily uninstalled. However, no Google apps are installed. Even the Play Store has to be installed first - but this can be done easily via APK. After the first start, 34.8 GB of storage space is occupied. Oppo has announced that starting from 2023, current flagships will receive four years of system updates and five years of security updates. The Find N3 Flip should also fall under this rule. The update to Android 14 arrived just in time for the end of testing.
The smartphone's full range of functions cannot be used via the external display. The time, date, charge status, weather, and steps counter are displayed there. There is also quick access to the camera. During the media playback, the media controls are displayed there. Notifications also appear on the display.
Selected apps can also be shown on the external display. The selection and order can be customized in the settings. In addition to your own apps, other programs - such as YouTube or Google Maps - can also be launched on the cover display. A keyboard is also displayed, which can be used to make entries, but is cumbersome.
A major strength of the form factor is the photo function. Thanks to the external display, selfies can be taken with all three lenses. In addition, both displays can be activated simultaneously when taking photos. If the smartphone is only opened halfway, it serves as a tripod itself and the software adjusts the display accordingly.
Communication and GNSS - Find N3 Flip with WiFi 7?
Some retailer websites refer to WiFi 7 for the Wi-Fi reception, but Oppo only lists 2.4 and 5 GHz as bands. Our reference router, the Asus ROG AXE11000, cannot establish a 6 GHz connection with the Oppo Find N3 Flip. However, the transmission rates in the 5 GHz range are good and on par with the comparison devices.
The Oppo Find N3 Flip also supports a wide range of mobile frequencies, including 5G. Reception is unremarkable in the test. Dual SIM can be used via two physical nano-SIM cards as well as via eSIM.

The Oppo Find N3 Flip supports all common satellite systems including SBAS and offers a dual system. It takes a moment for the satellite connection to be established, but it is then very stable and accurate.
We took the Oppo smartphone on a bike ride together with a Garmin Venu 2 smartwatch. In comparison, it is noticeable that the smartwatch maps the route much more accurately than the Find N3 Flip. However, navigation with Google Maps, for example, is possible with the smartphone without any problems.
Phone functions and voice quality - Oppo smartphone with roaming assistant
Oppo relies on its own phone app. In addition to access to contacts and call lists, it also provides a list of phone minutes and data volume used. Even contracts are offered via the dialer. The Find N3 Flip also has a roaming assistant. It recognizes when you are abroad and suggests suitable tariffs.
The phone quality is good. The Find N3 Flip is loud enough - even in hands-free mode. The user's voice is transmitted just as clearly. However, background noise is hardly filtered out.
Cameras - Find N3 Flip comes with triple setup
Oppo is breaking new ground in terms of cameras with the Find N3 Flip. It is the first flip smartphone with a triple camera setup. The main camera offers a maximum resolution of 50 MPix with OIS. This is joined by a 32 MPix ultra-wide-angle lens and a 48 MPix zoom lens. Oppo also relies on a collaboration with Hasselblad.
The quality of the images is impressive. The images are sharp, rich in detail, and have a realistic color balance. The Find N3 Flip's camera is even impressive when taking zoom shots. The system only reaches its limits in poor lighting conditions or night shots. Although the images are usable and have hardly any image noise, many areas are lost in the dark.
The images from the front camera are also okay. However, due to the outdoor display, it is advisable to use the main camera because it takes better pictures. The camera software also offers a Pro mode. ISO, shutter, white balance, and focus can be set manually. The Find N3 Flip can also save images as RAW and RAW+.
Videos are possible with all lenses in 4K at 30 fps. The recordings are well-stabilized and we also like the sound quality. However, the autofocus could work a little faster.

Main cameraMain cameraUltra wide-angle5x ZoomLow LightAccessories and warranty - Oppo without official suport
The Oppo Find N3 Flip comes in a large box that sets itself up when opened - that's nicely done. The manufacturer includes a 67-watt power adapter (USB-A to USB-C) with the smartphone. In our case, however, it is a Tap-A plug. Officially, the Find N3 Flip can only be charged with 44 watts despite the powerful power adapter.
Oppo even provides a two-part case. However, this is held in place with adhesive strips for a better grip. As the Oppo Find N3 Flip is not officially available for purchase in Germany, there is no official statement on the warranty. The warranty is provided by the retailer.
Input devices & operation - External display of the Find N3 Flip is not very customizable
We have replaced the pre-installed keyboard of the Oppo Find N3 Flip with Google's GBoard because the original keyboard does not support German as an input language and the corresponding layout. With the Google keyboard, input on the main display is possible without any problems or errors. However, the keyboard on the external display cannot be customized.
The surface of the main display is different from that of a conventional smartphone. Typing is somewhat softer and the gliding properties are slightly worse. The display is also susceptible to fingerprints. Although the crease is noticeable when scrolling, it is not annoying.
The Find N3 Flip can be unlocked via fingerprint or face scan. The fingerprint reader is integrated in the power button. Although it works quickly, it was not particularly reliable in the test. The finger often has to be placed on it several times. We like the face unlock function more as it works extremely quickly and reliably. If desired, the lock screen can be skipped directly. Unlocking with the camera works with both cameras and in both states.
Display - Find N3 Flip gets nice and bright
Two displays are installed in the Oppo Find N3 Flip. The outer cover display has a diagonal of 3.26 inches. It supports refresh rates between 30 and 60 Hz. The inner display is 6.8 inches in size and can adjust the refresh rate between 1 and 120 Hz thanks to LTPO support.
In addition, the Find N3 Flip's main display is nice and bright with an average value of 931.9 cd/m². The Find N3 Flip thus achieves a top value for this class and outperforms the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 and the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra. The Find N3 Flip even achieves 1077 nits in the APL18 measurement. The outdoor display reached a maximum of 720 cd/m² in the test.
We noticed the screen flickering during our measurements. The frequency varies from 120 Hz to 359 Hz at maximum brightness. However, the Oppo also offers a special PWM dimming mode with 1440 Hz. We also achieve this value in our measurements.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)
Screen flickering / PWM detected | 120 Hz | ||
The display backlight flickers at 120 Hz (worst case, e.g., utilizing PWM) . The frequency of 120 Hz is very low, so the flickering may cause eyestrain and headaches after extended use. In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 17900 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 3846000) Hz was measured. |
Measurement series with fixed zoom level and different brightness settings
Thanks to AMOLED technology, the black level of the Oppo Find N3 Flip is perfect. However, the panel's other settings are also impressive. The color deviations are only very slight - mostly in the imperceptible range.
The device is also impressive in terms of saturation. The sRGB color space is covered by 97.3 percent according to Calman 2D measurement.

Both displays of the Oppo Find N3 Flip are easy to use outdoors. The inner panel in particular is so bright that content is always easy to read.
The viewing angles of the Oppo Find N3 Flip are at a good level. Content is easily recognizable even from acute angles. The crease is barely noticeable even when viewed from the side.
Performance - Powerful MediaTek in the Oppo smartphone
We ran various benchmarks on the Find N3 Flip. The results are a mixed bag. In Geekbench 5 and 6, for example, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy and the Oppo with its MediaTek Dimensity 9200 are clearly superior. In PC Mark Work 3.0, the Find N3 Flip even falls behind the Huawei P50 Poket with its dusty Snapdragon 888.
However, the situation is completely different in Antutu V9 or UL Procyon AI Inference for Android - the Find N3 Flip takes first place in both tests. In everyday use, the smartphone impresses with its high system speed. Apps open quickly and the UI runs smoothly.
The fast built-in memory also contributes to good overall performance. Oppo relies on UFS 4.0 memory and we achieve great transfer rates in the tests.

The Find N3 Flip is powerful enough to play current games smoothly in high resolution. PUBG Mobile can be played in maximum HDR resolution with an Ultra refresh rate.
The Oppo Find N3 Flip performs well in the browser benchmarks. The values with the Edge are many times better with the Chrome - where they are catastrophic. However, this is not noticeable in everyday use. Pages load quickly and scrolling is smooth.

Temperature - The Find N3 Flip gets warm under load
The Oppo Find N3 Flip remains pleasantly cool in everyday use. We measured an average temperature of just 26.5 degrees Celsius without load. When the smartphone is put under stress, for example by demanding programs such as games or benchmarks, the device becomes noticeably warm, especially in the camera area.
We measured a maximum temperature of 41.9 degrees Celsius on the back in the burnout benchmark. However, this is not yet a cause for concern and the device can be held and operated without any problems.
(±) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 42 °C / 108 F, compared to the average of 35 °C / 95 F, ranging from 21.9 to 56 °C for the class Smartphone.
(±) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 40 °C / 104 F, compared to the average of 33.8 °C / 93 F
(+) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 26.5 °C / 80 F, compared to the device average of 32.7 °C / 91 F.

Speaker - Stereo sound on the Oppo foldable
Oppo manages to install stereo speakers despite the special shape. The upper speaker is integrated into the earpiece. However, the sound also radiates outwards through an opening on the top when closed.
The smartphone is loud at 91.6 dB but hardly vibrates on the back. The reproduction is clear, but there is hardly any bass or low frequencies. High tones are slightly too high. Overall, however, the sound of the Find N3 Flip is perfectly fine.
The Oppo smartphone does not have a jack connection. However, we were able to connect Bluetooth headphones without any problems during the test. The Find N3 Flip supports the following codecs: SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, aptX TWS+, LDAC, and LHDC.

Battery life - Find N3 Flip with large battery capacity
Power consumption - Oppo is hungrier than Samsung
The Oppo Find N3 Flip's energy consumption is okay. In comparison with other smartphones with the same SoC, it is noticeable that Oppo has adjusted the maximum consumption well. However, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 is significantly more economical in all areas.

Battery life - Over 14 hours of battery life on the Find N3 Flip
Although the Samsung smartphone consumes significantly less energy, the Oppo Find N3 Flip shines with the best battery life among the comparison devices. This is because the manufacturer relies on a significantly larger battery with a capacity of 4300 mAh.
In our realistic WiFi web surfing test, we achieved a runtime of over 14 hours. In everyday use, we can easily get through a full day with the smartphone. If the cover display is actively used, two days are also possible.

Verdict - Strong performance of the Oppo Find N3 Flip
Oppo delivers a powerful foldable with the Find N3 Flip. Like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 and the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra, it comes with a large cover display and can also be operated - to a limited extent - when folded. Compared to its competitors, however, it has one more camera. The photos from the Find N3 Flip are really good - there are hardly any limitations due to the form factor.
Oppo also achieves this with the battery. It is significantly larger than that of Samsung and Motorola. The Find N3 Flip easily gets through the day. The display is also impressive - it is nice and bright and perfectly calibrated as well. The crease is of course noticeable, but visually it is rarely noticeable in everyday use.
In terms of performance, we can hardly complain either. The system runs very smoothly, the RAM is generous at 12 GB and the UFS memory is not only large but also very fast.
Great camera, bright display, and a fast processor. The Oppo Find N3 Flip does a lot right.
Oppo's update promise is also very promising. In the test, the update to Android 14 arrived and the security patch is also up-to-date. However, the software is the only drawback on the test device. The device can currently only be used in English, but some areas only show characters. However, Google apps can be installed and Google services used without any problems. There is also hope that the devices will soon be officially available in Germany.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 offers even more performance and also long software support. If the external display can be smaller, the Motorola Razr 40 is a price-performance tip in this form factor.
Price and availability
