SAND is an open-world PvPvE extraction shooter set in a vast, procedurally generated world filled with ruined cities and deadly threats. Instead of sleek high-tech gear, the game embraces raw mechanics, towering steel behemoths and roaring engines that tear through the desert, creating a true dieselpunk experience. At the core of the game are the Tramplers, massive mechanical walkers that function as mobile bases, transportation and formidable war machines all at once.
Like any extraction shooter, SAND is all about loot. To gather valuable resources, players must face off against rival scavengers while also fending off NPC threats, not just enemy factions, but also the undead remnants of an ancient civilization. Surviving the desert means securing resources to upgrade your Trampler, enhancing its engines, weapons, defenses and storage capacity. Combat isn’t limited to these massive machines, players can also engage in intense firefights on foot.
Mixed feedback after demo
In October 2024, SAND was briefly available as a demo, sparking mixed reactions in the Reddit community. Many praised the concept of an extraction shooter with giant machines and a unique dieselpunk setting, while battles were described as exciting and tactical. However, performance issues raised concerns. Demo players reported frequent disconnections, long loading times and poor optimization, causing FPS drops even on high-end PCs. Hopefully, the developers will address these problems before the full release.
Early Access starts on April 3
SAND is being developed by TowerHaus and Hologryph in partnership with publisher tinyBuild, known for successful titles like Hello Neighbor, Graveyard Keeper and SpeedRunners. The game enters Early Access on April 3, though its price remains unknown. In the meantime, players can already add it to their Steam wishlist.
