Onyx BOOX Nova Air2: 7.8-inch E-Ink tablet arrives with Snapdragon 662 chipset and stylus support
Onyx BOOX has been on somewhat of a spree lately. Now, the company has introduced the Nova Air2, seemingly a cheaper and smaller alternative to the Onyx BOOX Tab Ultra. Equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 like the Tab Ultra, the Nova Air2 runs Android 11 on a 2,000 mAh battery with 3 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 32 GB of eMMC flash storage. For reference, the tablet measures 192 x 136.5 x 6.3 mm and weighs 235 g.
Additionally, Onyx BOOX includes Bluetooth 5.0 and dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity, plus a microphone and stereo speakers. In other words, the Nova Air2 contains many of the same specifications as other tablets. However, Onyx BOOX has built the tablet around an E-Ink display. Specifically, the Nova Air2 has a 7.8-inch display that operates at 1,872 x 1,404 pixels with a 300 PPI. As is often the case with E-Ink displays, the Nova Air2 only outputs in greyscale, albeit with an adjustable colour temperature from cold to warm.
As Onyx BOOX's marketing images show, the Nova Air2 also supports capacitive touch and an active stylus that detects up to 4,096 pressure levels. According to the company, the Nova Air2 ships with a BOOX stylus, a corresponding stylus case and spare stylus tips. Unfortunately, Onyx BOOX charges more for the tablet's case, which attaches magnetically. At launch, the Nova Air2 costs US$339.99 with a stylus case and replacement tips. Alternatively, the tablet can be ordered with a case for US$359.99. Supposedly, pre-orders should start shipping from November 8.
