Even though Super Meat Boy 3D didn't get much airtime in the recent Xbox Game Showcase 2025, the third entry is a welcome addition to the legendary platformer. However, it doesn't launch until 2026, meaning you have some time to catch up with the first two Super Meat Boy games, both of which have received sizeable discounts on Steam.
Super Meat Boy doesn't have much in the way of a story. Meat Boy and Bandage Girl are minding their own business until Dr Fetus kidnaps Bandage girl. As Meat Boy, you have to embark on a rescue mission that spans five different acts (six if you count Cotton Alley where you play as Bandage Girl), each with its unique set of challenges.
For all intents and purposes, Super Meat Boy is a bare-bones platformer. Get from point A to point B without dying. Sounds simple enough, right? Hardly. Your path will be littered with obstacles and everything will kill you in one tap. No exceptions. And there are no checkpoints, so if you die, you start over. Thankfully, there are no lives so you get unlimited attempts at a level.
Then there are optional collectibles called bandages. Strictly speaking, you can finish your play through without getting even one, but don't sleep on them entirely. They're placed in hard-to-reach places that often require you to redo an entire level. Bandages let you unlock characters with unique traits. For example, Flywrench has a unique jumping mechanism, Naija can perform insane dashes and the Headcrab can stick to surfaces. Some challenging levels can be easily overcome with specific characters, but you'll still require frame-perfect input to get through the later segments.
If you finish a level within a specific time (A+ rank), you unlock the ability to play an even more difficult version of it (Dark World). You can finish the story without interacting with the Dark World levels even once, but they're required for bandages and completionist runs.
Super Meat Boy Forever takes an entirely different approach. It is now an auto-scroller, meaning you'll be moving at all times and will be required to act at the right moment to navigate through levels. It wasn't very well received by the community because of that, although the game has its share of dedicated fans.
Super Meat Boy has dropped to $3.74 on Steam, 75% lower than its asking price. Similarly. Super Meat Boy Forever can be had for $4.99. Both games don't require much in the way of processing power and can run on anything built in the past decade. The promotion is valid until June 16.
