OnePlus 8T teasers confirm curved design, quad cameras and a 'breakthrough' diffuse reflection glass back that mitigates fingerprints
OnePlus has released its first teaser for the 8T, its next smartphone. The company had already confirmed that it would be releasing the OnePlus 8T, but this is the first official sighting of the device. As expected, the OnePlus 8T is a departure from the design of the OnePlus 8, which came out in April.
In fact, the OnePlus 8T most closely resembles the OnePlus Nord. The OnePlus 8T has a less curved design than the OnePlus 8T, for example, in a nod to the OnePlus Nord. However, the device will have a curved screen, matching the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro.

OnePlus has also shifted the rear-facing camera housing to the top left-hand corner, although it is more pronounced than the one on the Nord. Unsurprisingly, the larger camera housing holds more cameras. We count four, of which a 48 MP is the primary camera, along with what may be two LED flash clusters. Apparently, the other cameras in the OnePlus 8T will be a 16 MP ultra-wide, a 5 MP depth and a 2 MP macro.
Separately, Pete Lau has confirmed that the colour shown in the teaser video will be called Aquamarine Green. In a post on
OnePlus Community Forums and Weibo, Lau explained that:...we achieved a breakthrough and produced a remarkable glossy back cover for the new Aquamarine Green variant of the OnePlus 8T. This version takes advantage of diffuse reflection, a form of light refraction that scatters light in an expansive array of angles and directions, to produce a clean, gleaming surface that effectively mitigates the build-up of fingerprints.
Throughout development, we tried and tested hundreds of films before landing on the ideal type, which contains 7 layers, to complement the high-gloss finish and bring out the unique shade between green and blue. We never could have achieved this if we had followed the conventional development process of producing color films, but I'm proud to say that our efforts paid off. For the OnePlus 8T, we were able to produce one of the most advanced films in the industry, achieving a high-quality finish that raises the OnePlus standards for beautiful design.
