Olimex debuts ESP32-SBC-FabGL as new single-board computer with FabGL support for €15
Olimex has announced the ESP32-SBC-FabGL, a small and affordable single-board computer (SBC). According to the company, the ESP32-SBC-FabGL measures 105 x 65 mm, within which it has included an ESP32-WROVER dual-core WiFi and Bluetooth module that has 8 MB PSRAM and 4 MB flash. As its name suggests, the ESP32-SBC-FabGL also supports the FabGL graphics library, which it uses for PS/2 inputs.
For reference, FabGL supports various emulators, including those for Intel 8080 and 8086 CPUs. Hence, the ESP32-SBC-FabGL is suitable for running DOS, among other use cases. Additionally, the SBC features a buzzer, a microSD card reader and a USB Type-C port for programming and power. Moreover, Olimex has included a VGA port, an LCD hat connector and a LiPo battery connector.
Moreover, the SBC has a UEXT connector with I2C, SPI and serial interfaces, as well as an 8-pin 'access bus' for delivering power and UART with flow control. Currently, Olimex hopes to start selling the ESP32-SBC-FabGL next month, likely through its website. The company will open pre-orders soon, with the SBC's price estimated at €15. Olimex adds that pricing factors FabGL royalties, allowing its creator, Fabrizio Di Vittorio, to continue developing the project.
