Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has unveiled a new update for its Oculus Quest devices, named update v34, that will expand the capabilities of its headsets. The company has announced that it has already started to roll out this update, though it has advised that this will be a slow process. Update v34 includes improvements to several Oculus features.
Voice Commands has been enhanced to provide more everyday uses, such as playing and pausing media in Oculus TV and several other apps. The updated feature also allows people to quickly navigate using voice commands, such as moving to Settings, plus you will be able to ask simple questions such as "What's the weather like today?".
Also, Android users will now be able to see their phone notifications in VR. These in-VR notifications will be available for any mobile app that can show notifications on a phone's lock screen. A similar update was rolled out in May, update v29, for iOS users.
Alongside this, Meta has released a highly requested feature, which is called Space Sense. This new tool allows users to see objects and people that fall within the headset's Guardian boundaries. Oculus will initially roll out Space Sense as an Experimental Feature as the team continues to develop it. Meta provided more details in its release notes, posted on the Oculus forum. It has also hinted at a further software release to come later this year.
