The smart glasses are a cooperation between Garmin and Oakley Meta, and they specifically target athletes.
Users can utilize voice commands in order to get various information, such as the current pace, speed or heart rate. The manufacturer promotes automatic recordings that are started by smart triggers, for example during high performance moments that mark the peak of a workout or even a new personal record. While the Oakley Meta Vanguard don’t have a display, they can still provide visual information. A status LED is available and uses light to indicate whether users are in the target zone, such as the desired heart rate.
By some definitions, you could even call the Oakley Meta Vanguard AR glasses because they extend the perception of reality, primarily on an acoustic level and without interactions with the environment. That said, the Vanguard don't offer a visual overlay that displays information.
Anyhow, the Oakley Meta Vanguard feature a 12MP camera with a 122 degree field of view, and the glasses are relatively resistant to sweat and water. Meanwhile, the open-ear speakers can be used for voice output but also for music playback. A touchpad and an action button are available as well. The manufacturer specifies a battery life of 9 hours, and the charging case provides an additional 36 hours of runtime.
