Nvidia is bringing Titan Xp and Quadro external GPU solutions to notebook creative professionals

OEMs and GPU makers are continuously making efforts to reduce the performance gap between laptops and desktops, and with models like the Asus ROG Zephyrus GX501, that gap is not an issue anymore. The price for these models, however, might leave an even bigger gap in your budget, so this is probably not a good solution for creative professionals who already own a decent notebook. Nvidia is willing to help these particular individuals, and, at SIGGRAPH this year they have announced external GPU solutions featuring the powerful Titan Xp and Quadro chips.

The Titan Xp is similar to the enthusiast desktop Titan variant, so it is obviously meant for gaming, but it can hold its own in creative tasks such as 3D modeling, complex effects video editing, color correction and VR content creation.  As far as the creative part is concerned, Nvidia will be releasing a new performance driver that will enhance the Titan Xp performance in popular applications like Autodesk’s Maya (3X performance boost) and Adobe Premier Pro.

As for the Quadro eGPU solution, Nvidia has closely collaborated with manufacturers like Sonnet, Magma, Akiti, and Bizon to offer proper certifications. The Quadro also features the appropriate certifications for engineering applications like PTC Creo and Siemens NX.

Both models work on Thunderbolt 3 machines, so Mac users are more favored in this case. Nvidia also announced that they’ve been working with OEMs like Asus, HP, Powercolor and Razer in order to integrate the external GPUs with quality chassis. Pricing information has not been revealed for now, but Nvidia claims the Titan Xp can already be ordered, while the Quadro solutions will see availability in a few weeks.
