Reports about the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 launching with 12GB of GDDR6 VRAM were somewhat puzzling. In true Nvidia fashion, the card was announced in January 2021 with availability slated to begin sometime in February 2021. Wccftech claims to have insider information about the exact Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 release. It is allegedly set for 6 AM Pacific Time.
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 will be the first Ampere-based graphics card to run Nvidia's GA-106-300 GPU. Previous offerings such as the GeForce RTX 3070 and GeForce RTX 3060 Ti used modified versions of the GA-104 GPU. We can expect to see the GPU featured in other yet-to-be-announced Ampere cards such as the Geforce RTX 3050 and GeForce RTX 3050 Ti.
Other Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 specifications include 3,584 CUDA cores, 12GB of GDDR6 memory operating on a 190-bit bus, allowing for a total memrory bandwidth of 360GB/s, 13 shader-TFLOPs, 25 RT-TFLOPs for ray tracing, and a TDP of 170W. Its price is expected to start at US$329. It appears that at least one Reddit user in Europe has managed to get their hands on a GeForce RTX 3060 via a local retailer. However, not everyone will be as lucky, given the severe shortages of graphics cards in the market.
