Nothing’s first AI device will have no screen — and launches in December

Nothing is preparing to launch its first AI-native device in December, and CEO Carl Pei says it will have no screen. Pei has offered few details about the upcoming product, but describes it as a standalone tool rather than another AI-powered app.
Pei announced the launch in a post on X, describing the device as “a tool, but one built with the personality and care that have come to define a Nothing product.” He added that it “has no screen, and it couldn’t have been an app.”
Nothing has not disclosed the product’s form, features, price, or exact launch date. The only concrete detail is the absence of a display, alongside a teaser image showing the Nothing logo and an ambiguous black rounded corner. The announcement comes a little over a year after Pei first outlined Nothing’s plans for AI-native devices and an AI operating system.
There have been rumors that Nothing is developing two pairs of AI smart glasses, one of which reportedly will not have cameras. Other reports have suggested that the company is shifting towards AI accessories, although Nothing has not confirmed that either rumor is connected to its upcoming device.
Pei also took aim at the industry’s efforts to find the next big AI gadget, saying that companies are still hunting for an “iPhone moment” through pendants, pins, glasses, and companions — but argued that looking for “the iPhone of AI today is a dead end.”
Screen-free AI devices are not entirely new, with products such as the Humane AI Pin and Friend already attempting to bring AI assistants into standalone gadgets. OpenAI is also reportedly working on an AI smart speaker with Jony Ive.
Nothing is expected to reveal more about its first AI-native device ahead of its December launch.
