Beyond benchmark scores: We put the new Xiaomi XRing O3 through a real-world gaming test

The Xiaomi 9 Pad Max with the XRing O3 promises top-tier mobile gaming thanks to excellent benchmark scores in our review . But does its 16-core ARM Mali-G2 Ultra NX deliver the graphics power needed in everyday use, beyond GPU benchmarks?
Our GameBench analysis provides solid figures. We tested three Android games and recorded their exact frame rates (FPS). At least HFR gaming at up to 120 FPS should be possible on the Xiaomi 9 Pad Pro Max (prices at Trading Shenzhen start at around $1,000).
The Xiaomi XRing O3 is powerful, but does not impress in every game
In our review, the Xring O3's GPU achieves an extremely high frame rate in GFXBench. We measured 85 fps in the 4K test, a result that puts the competition to shame. By comparison, an iPad Pro with the M5 chip manages 50 fps here.
Unsurprisingly, the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max performs very well in Genshin Impact, the open-world Android game we tested. This game demands considerable graphics power from the SoC. The Pad 9 Pro Max also shows no signs of excessive internal temperatures causing frame rate throttling, unlike the Fold with the Xring O3.
In older games, such as Dead Trigger 2, we reach peaks of 120 fps. Provided Xiaomi has sufficiently optimized the software for Android games, HFR gaming is possible on the Pad 9 Pro Max without any problems.
Otherwise, however, gamers are in for disappointment. PUBG Mobile currently runs at just 30 frames per second on the Xring O3, whether at low or medium detail settings. The highly detailed UHD graphics setting is not currently supported at all.
