Yesterday, we reported on the first details for Nothing's next smartphone. While the device will not replace the Phone (2) (curr. $649 on Amazon), it appears to sport an updated design language. Subsequently, leaker Yogesh Brar has shared hands-on images of the same device, which Nothing is rumoured to be developing under the model number 'A142', and 'AIN142' for its Indian variant.
Allegedly, the photos below are of a production validation test (PVT) unit, the final stage of prototyping before mass production. Thus, its specifications should be representative of retail units, which are expected to arrive as the Nothing Phone (2a). Despite the presence of a privacy cover, the photos confirm that the device has two rear-facing cameras mounted horizontally and closer towards the centre of its back panel than on recent Nothing smartphones.
Additionally, the left-hand photo suggests that both rear-facing cameras will output at 50 MP, which would match the Phone (2). However, it appears that Nothing has downgraded the Phone (2a) to a 16 MP front-facing camera, half the resolution of the equivalent found in the Phone (2). Also, the image reports the device as featuring a 6.7-inch AMOLED display, 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, all of which it would share with the Phone (2). Currently, the Phone (2a) is anticipated to arrive in February 2024 during MWC 2024, for which Nothing has already released a launch event teaser.
