Nokia XR21 to launch as new rugged smartphone with OS updates until 2026
HMD Global is preparing to release a new rugged smartphone. While the company has not commented on a new smartphone release yet, Roland Quandt has shared several official images and various specifications. Originally, the leaker claimed that the Nokia XR20 successor would launch as the Nokia XR30. However, he has since clarified that the device will arrive as the Nokia XR21 instead.
In short, the Nokia XR21 will retain its predecessor's thick edges and textured back panel, presumably to improve grip where possible. Additionally, the device will feature a chipset with a 5G modem, which Quandt believes to be the Snapdragon 695. Moreover, HMD Global will offer the Nokia XR21 with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage too; it remains to be seen whether other memory configurations will be available.
Elsewhere, the Nokia XR21 will contain a 6.49-inch IPS display that outputs at 1080p and 120 Hz. As such, HMD Global has located the device's fingerprint scanner within its power button. Purportedly, the device will combine a 64 MP primary camera with 8 MP ultra-wide-angle and 16 MP front-facing cameras, as well as a dual-tone LED flash.
Furthermore, the Nokia XR21 is expected to launch with a 4,600 mAh battery that supports 33 W wired charging. Unsurprisingly, HMD Global has included a 3.5 mm jack, along with two nano SIM card slots. A release date has not leaked yet, although Quandt claims that the Nokia XR21 will eventually debut for US$499 with OS and security updates promised until 2026 and 2027, respectively.
