The Nintendo Switch 2 appears to have been a huge success so far. Following Nintendo's own sales prediction of up to 15 million units by the end of March 2026, and analysts' sales estimates of 17.6 million units, 20 million Nintendo Switch 2 consoles are now expected to be sold.
This is according to a new report from Bloomberg, which states that Nintendo has asked suppliers to increase production volume to 25 million units by the end of the fiscal year, five million of which are earmarked for the next fiscal year starting in April 2026. In the US, sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 are said to have been 77% higher in the first three months compared to the first three months after the launch of the first-generation Nintendo Switch. The ambitious production targets are intended to prevent the hybrid console from selling out before Christmas, as was the case with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X for a long time.
The Nintendo Switch 2 appears to be successful despite its significantly higher price and limited game selection. Although the console is compatible with the entire game library of the first-generation Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo eShop currently lists only 75 games that have been optimized for the new console, most of which are also available as versions for the older Nintendo Switch. Even Nintendo's latest blockbuster, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, failed to impress fans; user reviews on Metacritic are generally negative, with an average rating of 4.6 out of 10 points.
