New free-to-play action-adventure RPG launches on Steam with 2,300 player peak and over 100 characters

Gremory Games officially launched Taimanin Squad on Steam and mobile platforms on March 4, 2026. While previous titles like Action Taimanin was all about real-time hack-and-slash combat, Squad moves into the turn-based strategy space. The global launch followed a pre-registration period that reportedly hit 300,000 users, unlocking a variety of "Grand Open" login rewards, including a premium recruit ticket and the 5-star character Igawa Asagi for early players.
Key specs and data:
The title is a "collecting RPG" built on the Unity engine with relatively accessible hardware requirements.
- Graphics: Features 3D character models with dedicated "relationship scenarios" that unlock personal cutscenes.
- Character Roster: Launches with approximately 100 upgradeable characters.
- Storage: Requires 8 GB of available space on PC, though some mobile versions have reported sizes up to 7.6 GB with HD assets.
- Performance: Fully playable on Steam Deck, though some functions currently require partial controller support or manual mapping.
- Memory: Minimum requirement is 4 GB of RAM, with 8 GB recommended for stable performance.
The Taimanin franchise has been well-known for its "mature" roots, but Taimanin Squad - much like its predecessor Action Taimanin - is marketed as a safer-for-work (SFW) experience. The game itself is set in Tokyo Kingdom City, a "Demon City" where players lead a joint force of Taimanins and UFS troops against invading hellspawn. Despite the high pre-registration numbers, player feedback on platforms like Reddit has been cautious - some beta testers are saying that the game has recycled assets from previous games and a significant difficulty spike in later chapters.
The transition to turn-based mechanics looks to be an attempt to get into the gacha market. The initial "Mixed" rating is a problem, however, as early reviews have expressed concerns regarding the balance of free currency income versus store pricing. However, as a free-to-play title, Taimanin Squad is a low-risk game for fans of the universe. However, newcomers should expect a grind-heavy progression system and a mandatory internet requirement, even for single-player content.
