Wartales is an open-world RPG set a century after the fall of the Edoran Empire. Following this event, banditry took the reins of the land and every place is dangerous. 

In this medieval world, you will have to lead a band of mercenaries, but be careful, don't play the hero, because your only goal is to survive. Fight to gain resources, wealth, and glory, and accept contracts that will allow you to obtain these rewards. The battles are turn-based, and you will need to deploy various strategies to defeat your enemies. Therefore, finding the best balance between your mercenaries and your equipment will be necessary.

Each companion has different stats, skills, and weapons, and you can customize them using a crafting system. A vast world with different environments filled with villages and ruins is to be explored. And you can also discover secrets that reveal details about its history.

On Metacritic, it also received good reviews, with a Metascore of 79 and a user score of 7.6. Players particularly enjoy its medieval fantasy world, combat, story, and character customization. In addition, a co-op mode for up to four players is also available.

However, some find the gameplay repetitive, and many people complain about the numerous DLCs that lock several parts of the story. Indeed, when arriving at certain locations visible on the map, it is not possible to access them without the associated DLC.
