Toyota has unveiled an all-electric version of the Hilux pick-up. The company announced plans to release a BEV version of this model in 2024 at the Bangkok International Motor Show. Now, Toyota has announced the rollout of its first electric Hilux pick-up.
The Hilux BEV is all-wheel drive, with 205 Nm torque at the front and 268.5 Nm torque at the rear. The model is equipped with a 59.2 kWh lithium-ion battery, said to provide around 240 km (~150 miles) range. The company estimates a 715 kg (~0.8 US ton) payload and 1,600 kg (~1.8 US ton) towing capacity, and the wading depth of the all-electric version is said to match that of its ICE predecessor.
Toyota’s electric Hilux will feature a Multi-Terrain Select system, adjusting brake and torque performance based on the environment, and the version for the Western European market will also offer electric power steering, a first for this model. This model has a Double Cab, with slim headlights, a rear deck step and a redesigned side step. Other features include a Blind Spot Monitor, a Driver Monitor Camera, and some settings and services can be accessed via the MyToyota app.
The 2026 Toyota Hilux BEV will start to roll out across Europe from December 2025, though the company has yet to announce its pricing. The ninth-generation Hilux will also be available with hybrid 48V, diesel and petrol engines in some markets. Plus, the company has confirmed that it is working on a hydrogen fuel cell version of the vehicle, which is currently scheduled for release in 2028.
