Kia has hit the brakes on the US launch of the EV4 sedan. This electric model was exhibited at the 2025 New York International Auto Show in April, with Kia announcing plans to launch the vehicle in early 2026.
However, in a recent statement made to InsideEVs, an unnamed Kia spokesperson seemed to confirm a postponement in the launch of the EV4 in this market. According to the representative for the South Korean car manufacturer, “the release of the upcoming EV4 electric sedan will be delayed until further notice”. While an exact reason for this delay was not provided, the statement noted that “market conditions for EVs have changed”. This suggests that the ending of the EV Tax Credits scheme in the US and current tariffs on the import of South Korean goods could be factors in this decision.
The Kia EV4 sedan, which is already on sale in South Korea, was due to be offered in three trim levels in the US. All built on the 400V E-GMP platform with a 150 kW front motor, they came with 58.3 kWh or 81.4 kWh batteries, with the latter offering up to 330 miles (~531 km) range. With a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, a battery charge from 10% to 80% was estimated to take half an hour.
It remains to be seen whether or when the Kia EV4 sedan will be released in the US. In other news, Kia recently shared the first official images of the EV4 GT hatchback, which is set for release at some point in 2026.
