Toyota reveals plans for new Hilux battery electric pick-up
A battery-electric version of the Toyota Hilux could go into mass production before the end of 2025. Noriaki Yamashita, President of Toyota Motor Thailand, made the announcement at the Bangkok International Motor Show, according to a report by Reuters news agency. The company has yet to confirm whether it plans to make the electric vehicle in Thailand.
The Toyota Hilux Revo BEV concept was unveiled in 2022 at the company’s 60th anniversary celebrations. At the motor show, Yamashita said that Toyota will deliver twelve units of the new electric pickup next month for a trial based in Pattaya, a coastal city in Thailand popular with tourists. The company said that the EVs would be used for public transportation during this testing phase, but it did not provide further details as to what this would entail.
It has been speculated that Toyota revealed its plans at the event after competitor brand Isuzu Motors confirmed that it would be manufacturing the battery electric D-MAX pickup in Thailand by the end of 2025. Precisely when the Toytota Hilux EV will go on sale or how much it will cost remains to be seen.
