Tesla may be adding wireless charging to Cybertruck in the future according to details mentioned in the service manual of the vehicle. Based on this new information and Tesla’s previous confirmation of the Project Garfield wireless charging solution, it is easy to see that the company is serious about adding the tech to the Cybertruck.

We reported back in December 2023 that Tesla was developing wireless charging for its cars. As explained by Franz von Holzhausen who heads the company’s design department, wireless charging will allow Tesla owners to simply park their car over a charging pad to top up the battery. Thanks to a keen-eyed user over at Cybertruck Owners Club, it has now come to the surface that Cybertruck might be getting the ability to charge wirelessly in the future.

Diving into the details, user ituner-HF noticed that item 31 in the Cybertruck Service Manual mentions “inductive charging headers” present on the high voltage battery which points to the potential existence of an inductive wireless charging solution for the Cybertruck in the future.

For the uninitiated, wireless charging works by transmitting current from a “transmitter” coil to a “receiver” coil through a constantly changing magnetic field generated in the former. This magnetic field then “induces” a current in the receiver coil, hence the name. In smartphones, the most common wirelessly charging gadgets that we have around, the receiver coil is placed inside the phone while the transmitter coil is located on the wireless charger (Buy one from Amazon).

However, regular inductive charging that most smartphones use requires the device to be placed directly on top of the charger. Since Tesla’s vision is a solution that works when the car is simply parked over the charging pad and not in physical contact, wireless charging in Cybertruck could employ “Magnetic resonant charging” which doesn’t need the transmitter and the receiver to be in close proximity.

Finally, Cybertruck could have its wireless charging module in the back where users have noted space under the tow hitch area.

That said, this is all speculation as Tesla is yet to confirm any plans for equipping Cybertruck with wireless charging. So, don’t take the information present here as gospel.
